What Clients Say

Recent client accounts

"I came in not knowing what a petition even was. Nadia sat with me for over an hour on the first visit and did not rush me once. By the end, I understood what lay ahead. The whole process took about four months and I felt informed at every stage."

"The maintenance matter was more complicated than I expected, but Ahmad was patient throughout. He explained the financial disclosure requirements clearly, which made a stressful part of the process feel manageable. Response times could be a little quicker, but the quality of advice was solid."

"I was most worried about the custody arrangement — my children are young and I had no idea what to expect. Siew Lin took the time to explain every option and never made me feel like I was asking too many questions. I felt supported, not just advised."

PM

"What I noticed most was that nobody tried to tell me what to decide. They laid out the options — for the custody arrangements, for access schedules — and let my husband and me reach a conclusion. That approach made the whole thing far less combative than I feared it would be."

"The fee was clear from the beginning, which mattered to me — I had heard stories about costs spiralling. Nothing like that happened here. The written outline they gave me at the start was exactly what I paid in the end. That honesty built a lot of trust."

"I came to Ikatan after a difficult first attempt elsewhere where I felt like a file being moved around. Here it was different from the first meeting. My adviser remembered details about my situation from one meeting to the next without me having to repeat myself."

Case Studies

Three journeys, in brief

All identifying details have been changed. Published with client permission.

Case Study — Separation

The Situation

A client in her early forties came in following a separation of several years. She and her husband had not formalised anything and she was uncertain whether she needed to proceed formally at all.

What We Did

We explained the legal standing of long-term separation and the practical implications for property and future arrangements. Over three months, we guided her through the petition process at her own pace.

The Outcome

Decree nisi obtained within four months. The client reported feeling that she finally understood her legal standing — and that the process had been far less frightening than she anticipated.

"I kept putting it off for years because I didn't understand what it would involve. Knowing the steps in advance made all the difference."

Case Study — Maintenance

The Situation

A father of two sought guidance on child maintenance following a separation. He was unsure what figures were fair or how a court would approach the matter, and was concerned about being asked to commit to amounts he could not sustain.

What We Did

We walked through the relevant statutory framework, helped him prepare a clear financial disclosure, and outlined what a Malaysian family court typically considers when assessing maintenance figures.

The Outcome

A consent order was reached within eight weeks, at a figure both parties found workable. The client described the process as far less adversarial than he had feared.

"Ahmad was honest about what was realistic. That helped me go into the discussions with the right expectations."

Case Study — Custody

The Situation

A mother of a six-year-old was concerned about formalising custody arrangements after a separation. Both parents were on reasonable terms but wanted written clarity about living arrangements and school decisions.

What We Did

We explained joint and sole custody options in plain terms and helped both parties articulate what they each wanted clearly. We then guided them through the consent order process.

The Outcome

A workable joint custody arrangement was formalised within three months. The child continues to have stable, regular time with both parents.

"Siew Lin kept asking what would work for our daughter, not just what was legally possible. That mattered enormously to both of us."
